NDSC ROAD TOUR – KIGALI, RWANDA

Chairman of the Nigeria Diaspora Sports Council, Dr Tunde Adelakun visited Kigali Rwanda recently, and made a stop at the office of the Acting High Commissioner of Nigeria to Rwanda, Ambassador Ibrahim Zanna.

His account of the meeting is as follows:

Very well received by High Commission staff and the High Commissioner himself, it did not take long for us to establish a great connection, formed by a mutual interest in sport and its role in the development of Nigeria as a whole.

Ambassador Ibrahim was very amiable, and expressed his openness to working with, and expanding the scope of potential Nigeria investment in foreign lands. And that, although the NDSC is not exactly a commercial business in that sense, he realised that our mission, which inevitably will unearth, monitor and deliver future medal prospects for Nigeria through Nigerian-born athletes, is an investment in itself, and he was all for it.

I responded, saying that I was aware that there is a big Nigerian community in Rwanda, a community that comprises students, expatriate workers as well as business entrepreneurs alike. These people will have children/wards that take part in sport, and it will be a delight, a thrill and an interesting challenge discovering some of such talent and guiding them in the pathway to a career in sport, one way or the other, with the backing of the Nigerian High Commission.

We agreed that it was worth working together and that we will keep each other posted regarding developments and events that will support the Nigerian community in Rwanda, and promote further, the cordial bilateral relations between the two countries.
